A prepared application is easier to assess and less likely to stall over missing information. Collect the debt, income and expense documents before you apply, and keep the comparison that led you to the option.
Have current identification, address history and contact information ready. Use secure provider channels and do not send sensitive documents through an unverified social-media account or email address.
Collect recent payslips and bank statements. Casual, contract or self-employed income may require contracts, tax returns, notices of assessment or business records.
For every debt being consolidated, provide the creditor, account type, current payout figure, rate, repayment and account number through the secure application process. Keep debts that will remain in the budget.
Prepare an honest monthly view of housing, groceries, utilities, transport, insurance, care and other regular costs. Include irregular expenses separately rather than pretending they do not occur.
Ask whether the step creates a formal enquiry, what rate and fees apply, whether the loan is secured, who pays the creditors and what happens if a payout figure changes.
Read the loan contract and repayment schedule. Confirm the total amount repaid and any early-payout conditions. Continue current repayments until creditor payout is confirmed.
Record balances, payout figures, rates, repayments and due dates.
Try the calculatorUse current versions of identity documents, income evidence, bank statements and debt statements. Make sure names and addresses are consistent or prepare an explanation for a recent change. Save files with plain labels so the requested period can be identified quickly.
For each debt, record the creditor, account holder, payout amount, quote date, expiry date and daily interest after expiry. Add the payment instructions where supplied. This helps identify a shortfall before the new loan settles.
The requested amount should reconcile with the payout figures and financed fees. The income entered should match the evidence. Every liability shown in statements or the credit report should be included or explained. Do not omit a debt because you do not intend to consolidate it.
Build the application pack from current statements, payout figures, income evidence and a realistic expense list. If you install WeMoney and connect your accounts, you can use the app to check debts, repayments and recurring expenses while doing this. Review personalised savings opportunities and make sure the amount requested covers only the debts you have deliberately chosen to address.
Confirm the rate range, fees, term, security and total amount repaid. Ask when a hard enquiry occurs and whether the information goes to more than one lender. Read consent and privacy wording before uploading transaction or identity data.
Approval does not complete the old payouts. Keep making current repayments, confirm settlement, check for residual balances and deal with account closure. Store the new contract and first repayment date with the payout confirmations.
Create a folder for identity documents, address history, payslips or income records, bank statements, living expenses, current loan statements and dated payout figures. Check that names, addresses, employer details and balances are consistent. Expired or conflicting information is a common reason for follow-up.
Add a debt schedule that reconciles to the amount requested. For each creditor, show the account number, payout amount, valid date and whether the account should close. Separate fees or extra cash from the amount required for consolidation. The lender should be able to trace the proposed loan back to the debts being cleared.
Keep a comparison page with the offered rate, comparison rate, term, repayment, fees, total amount repayable, security and early-repayment rules. Test the payment in an ordinary and difficult month. Record why the chosen option improves the problem you are trying to solve.
Before submitting, review the consent and ask whether the step creates a hard enquiry. Make sure the amount and term still match the latest payout figures. Avoid sending several applications while documents are incomplete. One accurate application is easier to assess and easier for you to explain.
After approval, update the pack with the final contract, settlement date, payment references and closure confirmations. Check the first repayment and the next statement from every old creditor. Keeping the paperwork together makes it much easier to tie off residual balances and review the result later.
Do not send the entire pack to an unverified email address because someone has called about the application. Confirm the provider and secure upload channel from its official website or credit guide. Identity and financial documents can be reused for fraud, so document handling is part of application preparation rather than an administrative detail.
Turn the checklist into a timeline. Gather balances and payout figures first, then compare options, then make any formal application. Leave space for document requests and for payout quotes to expire. After settlement, schedule checks for old account closure, residual interest and the first new repayment. This sequencing reduces avoidable rework and makes it less likely that an account is forgotten. Keep the final contract, repayment schedule and closure confirmations together. A complete file is useful if a direct debit continues, a balance reappears or the loan terms do not match the offer you expected.
Do documents need to be certified? Requirements vary. Ask before paying for certification. How recent should statements be? Use the period requested by the provider. Can screenshots replace statements? They may omit account ownership, dates or transactions, so confirm the accepted format.
Payout quotes, payslips and identification can become stale during a delayed process. Review the pack immediately before submission. If income, address or debts changed, update the application rather than hoping the older document will be accepted.
Keep a submission record showing what was supplied and when. This makes follow-up easier and helps resolve a discrepancy without sending sensitive files repeatedly.
A lender may ask for another statement, clearer copy or explanation. Respond through the verified channel and update any figure that changed. Do not submit a different version of income or liabilities to make the application fit.
If the requested amount changes, rerun the repayment and total-cost comparison. A small increase to cover a payout shortfall can alter fees or pricing. The application pack is complete only when it matches the contract being considered.

Save payout letters, quotes, fee schedules, calculations and notes in one place. Record the date and expiry of each figure. This makes it easier to compare like with like, answer a lender’s questions and check that settlement paid the intended debts. It also gives you a clear record of why the chosen option met your conditions.
