- Her experience: she restarted after letting an earlier application lapse and found the second process easy and straightforward
- After: one more controlled repayment and no credit cards left open
- Next: building savings for her daughter to receive at 18
Before WeMoney
Rachel grew up without a model for saving and spent much of her adult life living week to week. Credit cards were usually maxed, and whenever she paid part of a balance down, she used the available credit again.
"I just assumed that that was what my financial life was destined to be. So I accepted it."
Separation gave her a reason to change the pattern. Rachel wanted to buy a home for herself and her daughter but was about $3,000 short of the deposit needed under a single-parent scheme. She began splitting her money into buckets, setting bills aside in advance and treating weekly saving as another bill.
In September 2025, she bought the house. Some debt remained after the purchase, including credit-card balances that she wanted to clear and close rather than pay down and use again.
How she started using WeMoney
Rachel had downloaded WeMoney about a year earlier after researching ways to track her spending. The app gave her an automatic view of where her money was going while she built the saving habits that helped her reach the deposit.
After buying the home, she returned to WeMoney for the next job: bringing the debts that remained, including the credit cards she wanted gone for good, into one consolidated loan.
How WeMoney helped
WeMoney showed Rachel a matched lender and a route into the application from her phone. She preferred email and text to phone calls, and the process let her continue without printing documents, visiting a branch or signing anything in person.
Rachel had started an application once before and allowed it to lapse. When she was ready, she went through the steps again and found the process easy to complete.
"Really easy... very straightforward."
The lender remained responsible for the credit decision, contract and settlement. WeMoney's role was to show the matched option and help Rachel continue into the application in the way she preferred.
After WeMoney
Rachel closed the credit cards after the consolidation, removing the available limits she had previously paid down and used again. She still had a loan to repay, but the debt felt more controlled because it sat in one structure rather than revolving across open cards.
"I have no credit cards anymore. I obviously have debt, but it's more controlled."
Rachel is now building a separate savings account for her daughter to receive at 18. She still has weeks when money feels tight and still catches herself impulse buying. The difference is that her bills and savings are set aside, the credit cards are closed and she can see progress towards the next goal.
"You can, and I did, and I'm a single parent doing it."
See the debts together first
Connecting your accounts in WeMoney can show your spending and debts in one place. If several balances are weighing on you, you can then review consolidation options you may be eligible for and compare the repayment, rate, term, fees and total amount repayable before deciding whether to continue.
Rachel's experience is individual. Eligibility and outcomes vary by member and lender, and her story is not a promise that another person will receive the same result.
