How to stop being an emotional spender and wasting money!

The Broke Blogger

Picture this, the shops have now re open you are currently stood down, living of an essential budget but with very little self-control. What do you do? How do you stop yourself from spending any more than a penny from that budget?

I think one of the hardest things that many of us struggle with is self control when it coms to our budgets and being placed in the midst of a pandemic alongside with a whole lot of free time is not that much fun for us emotional spenders.

If you are like me and not working is somewhat of a daily trigger, then I have come up with a few tips that help me combat my emotional spending.

‍

Set A Budget

I know that this does not need to be said even once, I get it. You have set yourself a budget and yet you are still blowing through it. If you find that you are a spender then add a little bit into your budget, if it tallows. I find that putting away even a minimum of $20 a pay check lets me know that I have that there for myself. It gets even better if you it it start to  build up!

‍

Say Goodbye

Get rid of your after pay, there I said it. It is time now though to say goodbye to your AfterPay or Zip Pay or anything along those lines. Pay focus on paying them off and then reveal in the feeling that you don’t owe anything. You could also use that money you use to spend to put in your treat yourself account or snowball towards your other debt.

‍

Wishlist

I know that this may seem a little cliché but I even I have started to use it and let me tell you the way I use it has changed my world. Adding the items that you want to a note taking app, add in all the prices, write down the reason why you want this product and what it will add to your life. Then set yourself a date to check back in a weeks time to see if you still want this product. Continue this until you have saved for this certain product!

‍

Remove Yourself

Pretty simple! Just don’t go there. If you get your groceries at a shopping centre walk in the grocery end, don’t want past the shops. Don’t even tempt yourself. I know we can’t remove ourselves from online shopping but if we can remove our physical self’s from the shops then lets start there.

As a self acknowledge emotional spender I am excited to also see what works for you! Let me know in the comments below and lets kick this for our budgets sake!
